The Rideau Cup

The Lanark/North Leeds ARES Group participated in and supported the Rideau Cup Sled Dog Races, on February 16th and 17th, 2008. The races began on Saturday at the Newboro Locks, near the village of Newboro, Ontario, and covered a distance of 25 miles to Chaffey's Locks and return, over part of the Cataraqui Trail. This was also repeated on Sunday.

 

 

A Control Station was set up in a construction trailer,

and two antennas installed, one for simplex and the

other for a local repeater.

Two operators received reports of progress of the teams. Helen VE3LSW and Sally VE3YSH are shown at the controls

A wall chart was used to show the placement of the teams as they passed six check points.

Helen,VE3BNZ and an announcer from a local radio station are shown.

 

 

 

 

This young lady was the winner of the two day event. She had won every race she had been in this year.
