"It often happens to children - and sometimes to gardeners - that they are given gifts of value of which they do not perceive until much later." ~  Wayne Winterrowd

                   YOUTH GARDENERS CLUB

The Essex and District Horticultural Society has a Youth Gardeners

Club. The purpose of this group is to provide youth with practical

gardening application, hands on learning and partaking in the

beautification of our town gardens.  We also offer an Adopt-a-Tree

program whereby the children study a tree for a year and document their

findings. A certificate and medal is awarded for their efforts. We

started seedlings and planted a garden of various vegetables for the Essex

Food Bank in 2005 and wish to continue this in the future. All in

all, children who are interested in gardening and the environment can

join the club.

We meet at the Essex Kinsmen Field House located on Fairview West

near the Essex arena. Our meetings are held on the third Wednesday

evening of the month, from 6:00 to 7:30 pm, excluding the months of July,

August and December.  The program is designed for children ages 6

to 12. We offer many tips that will help you become a good gardener--no

matter what kind of garden you grow.  We get creative and do lots

of related crafts. So, get out your green thumbs and join us for some
gardening fun!
