Tears for Ash

Broken Wings
I saw it coming a mile away
From my perch above the ground.
The whisper of a hurricane
I heard on the wind.
I didn’t take to the sky
And fly out of its grasp
Because it would have meant
Leaving you alone in its path.
Now I’m bruised and bleeding
With twisted broken wings.
Doomed by the choices I have made
To crawl upon the ground.
As the darkness slowly grows
And leaves are touched by frost,
You have left for somewhere safe and warm
While I weather the storm.
The snow covers the ground now
And I’m starving in this place.
Through the cold and lonely nights
I wonder what end I will meet.
Will I fall pray to the wolves
Circling near by.
Or will I starve or freeze to death
When I lose the strength to fight.
I’m failing now, as another day
Leaves me weaker still.
I may not ever see another spring
Or feel the wind beneath my wings.
No one will see me here
A white swan in the snow,
So when you find my bones next summer
Just leave them alone.
