This is by far my favorite hobby. I love to just watch the wind turbine spin. I started by building a small drag style vertical axis wind turbine. Unfortunately it did not perform very well, so I decided to try again but this time I built a lift style vertical axis wind turbine (MZR-1 pictured left). This one performed extremely well, beyond what I had ever expected. It spun so fast that eventually it sheared off the bolt that held it to the main bearing. This was only a test model and I was able to get performance readings before it came apart. Now I am building a larger one, the MZR-2!
