"Sources of Information for this Site"
I have done most of the research on the Jones portion of the Family Tree,
by searching Census Records, Marriage Records and Birth/Death Records in
Kent County, Westmorland County and Albert County, New Brunswick.
Most of these records are available on inter-library loan through your local library.
I also used a book written by Geneva (Jones) Emberley entitled
" Descendants of Charles Jones of New Brunswick from 1766 and
Ellis Descendants from 1739".
Also, many thanks to my relatives for their patience, when asked to relate
stories, fill out family group sheets and sort out family relationships.
For information on the landing of the Settlers in Moncton,
I used two excellent books written by Dr. Esther Clark Wright
"Samphire Greens - the Story of the Steeves" and "The Petitcodiac".
For information on the Colpitts Family I used a book written by William S. Hoar -
"Steeves and Colpitts Pioneers of the Upper Petitcodiac".
I was also very fortunate to do research at the
Lutes Mountain Meeting House,in Moncton, New Brunswick.
They are open during the summer months for all who wish to
research their family tree, and in the winter months by appointment.
Their holdings focus mainly on the Lutes Family, but do include
information on all the founding settlers.
Information on the Somers Family came to me quite by accident.
My sister is a Barber in the city of Saint John, New Brunswick. She
was casually talking to a client and the subject came around to genealogy.
As the conversation continued they stumbled onto a connection between the
client's research and the research I was doing!
My thanks to Bessie O'Donnell and her book titled:
"The Genealogy of the Brydges and related families Somers, Horsman and Fairweather. "
The MacKendrick research was at a standstill until the summer of 1997,
when I surfed the net and found a site in Prince Edward Island. I placed
a query and the very next day I had most of the missing pieces! In August,
my parents and I travelled to the Island and saw where the MacKendrick's
landed and met a long lost cousin!
My thanks to Mrs. McCrea of Hamilton, PEI and the direction
she gave us in locating our roots.
