My name is Nancy Jones and I began working on my Family Tree almost thirty years ago.
At first I was researching for our family reunions, then the bug hit! I couldn't get back far enough!
No rock or branch left unturned !
Dad and Mum have always encouraged and sometimes even helped, by walking through graveyards,
reading books, asking questions and finding out who that person is in that old photograph !
This site is all about my Dad's family, but I am working on the Armstrong and Brown lines on my
Mum's side and hopefully someday I will be able to create a Web Page for her family!

Just one thing before you get started --- NB or N.B. stands for New Brunswick, Canada, NOT
New Brunswick, New Jersey, or Brunswick, Georgia. New Brunswick is located on the Eastern Coast of Canada.
It is one of 4 provinces which make up the Atlantic Region of Canada. We are bordered on the West by the U.S. State of Maine.

I hope you enjoy this site and find what you are looking for ... maybe we are related!!

      A Very Good Read !!!

In 2001, Les Bowser wrote a book entitled "The Search for Heinrich Stief" a Genealogist on the Loose. This book is an excellent read for anyone researching the Steeves or Jones
families of New Brunswick, Canada. He tells of the paths he retraced in search of his illusive roots and where those paths eventually took him.

For me, the Epilogue, starting on page 197 is of particular interest.

Here is told the story of a man named Carl Schantz (pronounced Shunts) and his wife Margretha who were at St. Michael's Lutheran Church, to have their children
Anna Margretha Shantz, five years / four months old and Catharina Elizabeth Schantz, nine months old baptized. The witnesses to this blessed event were Heinrich Stief's eldest son
Jacob and Catherine Lutz. The pastor was the Reverend Heinrich Melchior Mühlenberg. The witnesses Jacob and Catherine were very excited about today, they were leaving with their
families on a sea journey to a new land in Nova Scotia. In fact, such was the excitement that Pastor Mühlenberg even recorded it in the baptism book, "people who leave today for Nova
                    Scotia."

Carl had waited to the last minute to have his daughters baptized, but the voyage was risky and this was important. Their sloop was loading and waiting at the wharf, Carl new the
ceremony wouldn't take long, and promised to follow soon.

Carl's German homeland was getting farther away from him now, English was spoken everywhere. His German ears thought it odd, when John Hughes called his name to sign
the agreement. He didn't care, he had more important things on his mind. He tried to remember what John Hughes had said ... Stief to Steeves, Lutzin to Lutz, Trietz to Trites,
                    Schantz to Jones.
He said these sounded more like English names.

That day, Carl Schantz or Charles Jones didn't care what John Hughes had called him, he and his family were heading for a new beginning, a new home and they would be just fine.

That was just a summary of the story related in Les Bowser's book

I encourage anyone who is doing research on this branch of the Jones' to read this book, from cover to cover.
I am leaving the information about the Jones name, the Crest and the Migration to Pennsylvania, it may be of use to someone.
