Campfire Ban Lifted - Starting August 30, 2010 for the entire Kamloops Forestry Area, which includes Chain, Link, & Osprey Lakes area. Campfire Size Change - effective July 1, 2010, the size of allowable camp fires has changed from 1m x 1m to 1/2m x 1/2m (approx 19" x 19") - see attached for detailed information. For possible campfire bans in our "Kamloops" forestry area, check out this link. Intermediate Salvage Licenses - Work to start on areas A85057 and A85058 (South West of Link Lake) August 18 or 19. There have been 5 licenses issued for logging south of Osprey and Chain Lakes - this is primarily an effort to reduce the risk of fire by removing dead trees, but also includes logging of live Pine trees. Where practical, other species will be left. Many details are summarized in the attached minutes from a small community information meeting & a site plan and background info from the forester. See the attached link for further information & details of the RDOS Wildfire Reduction Program.
Pleasure Craft Operator Card - This requirement is now in effect for ALL operators of ALL powered pleasure craft, including 'car top' and inflatable boats with electric motors used on Osprey, Chain & Link Lakes! To get an Operator Card on-line, contact Marine Training & Consulting, BC First Aid, Boat Card Canada, or Boat Smart Canada. Fishing Licenses are also required and can also be obtained on line thru the BC Government web site. Keeping our lake and Community Clean: Saturday April 24th 2010 the Friends of Osprey Lake held their annual clean up of the local roadways. The group of 12 area residents started the clean up from Tellier's Fisherman's Cove at 10:00 am and were finished by 2:30 pm. They were able to clean 28 kilometres of roadway, including most side streets, from Kathleen Creek to Shinnish Creek Road. This event was in conjunction with Pitch In Canada and Princeton Free Dump Days and resulted in having almost 900 pounds of trash being picked up and sent to the area landfill. The delivery to the landfill was in thanks to Norm Christman, Jill Pelland
and Lynne Adams. They would like to thank
Upcoming Community Events:
Help our community collect and retrieve garbage, cans and bottles, fishing line, plastic bags, cigarette butts, etc. from the shores of Osprey and Link Lakes. Going for a walk around one or both of the lakes that weekend? Take along a few plastic bags and a pair of gloves, along with a grabber, if you have one. Boat, canoe, kayak or walk into either of our lakes to help out with this event. You may be surprised what we find. If anyone has scuba gear to retrieve deeper items that would be great! If you live on a lake shore property please take a few minutes to check your shores. All garbage collected from the lakes should be dropped of at the bottom of the Quadling’s driveway (4192 Princeton/Summerland Rd) just east of Tellier’s, across from the Osprey Lake Campground before 2:30 pm on Sunday, Sept. 19. We will be arranging other pick up sites. If you can help with this event please call Myra at 250-295-0044. We will then take the garbage to the Princeton dump. No household garbage please. Our past participation in this event has helped ensure cleaner and safer shorelines for all of us to enjoy. You can log on to www.shorelinecleanup.ca for more information about this across Canada event. We can use your help. Thank you, Friends of Osprey and Link Lakes. Ratepayer's Assoc. New ORV Regulations New regulations have now finally been approved to cover the operation of Off-Road Motorcycles, ATVs, and Snowmobiles. Registration, annual licensing, helmets, insurance, etc. will be required when riding on Crown land and when crossing roads. Click to see BC Government press release.
High Speed Internet for the Three Lakes Area Update April 6, 2010 - year 2 of the 3 year provincial funding assistance program has now closed - unfortunately, we didn't get approved - maybe next year?? Under this program, China Creek Internet (who are already offering this service to many nearby areas for only $35/m) would install the 'infrastructure' under a provincial grant, then each user would be responsible for their own receiver and monthly costs. This service would be far superior to anything else currently available in our area.
