Fishing Tips !

This week is typical fall fishing "excellent". We have seasoned Onaman Lake Fishermen in this week and they are catching the Walleyes. Big Walleyes, are more the rule than the exception. Lots of 25, 26, 27's caught so far this week. I am going to have to stop putting up the pictures of all of them. The preferred bait this week is floating jigs, rigged with 3/8oz walking sinkers, tipped with minnows. Back trolling this combo through the normal fall feeding areas has been producing well. Along with the traditional fall areas, Caribou, Delaware and the Weed Bed, we have also seen some new areas producing fantastic Walleye fishing, Crapper Island, Buds hole have all gave up some excellent Walleyes.

We have also seen a few nice Pike this week as you can tell by the pictures. Most of these larger Pike have been hooked while fishing the Walleye holes. I have a feeling they are feasting on the excellent crop of small Walleyes we have this season. That could be why the traditional lures are not producing as well as they normally do. I am no pro, but something else seems to be occupying the 40" plus Northerns this season. Next week may change their feeding patterns, we will see.

Don't forget the depth finders, bait and GPS if your concerned about getting turned around. When the fall Walleyes are hitting, I like a med light rod spooled with 6lb fire line. Some days they will hammer your lure and others they seem to tease you with very light hits. Bring your digital camera also, we want your pictures.
