La Symbolique - The interpretation

The background of azure recalls the principal colour of the Quebec flag.

The cross composed of four silver nails honours the Christian faith of the Cloutiers, the derivation of their family name and of the estate of La Clouterie in Beauport granted to Zacharie Cloutier in 1636 by the Seigneur of Beauport Robert Giffard.

The ancient manor house in gold is in memory of the first house (later to become Aubergine de Fine Gueule) built in 1642, at Chateau-Richer, by Zacharie Cloutier, master carpenter and ancestor of the Cloutiers of America.

The axe in silver brings to life the signature, in the form of an axe, of Zacharie Cloutier.  The upright Indian feather is in memory of the native people during the first century (17th) of the colony.

The motto « Clouer pour Edifier » represents the ideal of the Cloutiers : Nail together (integrate) in order to join together and strengthen, and to build with the view of constructing and embellishing the essence of body and soul.
