THE HISTORY OF LASSOCIATION DES CLOUTIER DAMÉRIQUE
LAssociation des Cloutier dAmérique is a not-for-profit organization registered on May 25,1982 under part 3 of the Quebec Companies Act. The primary goal in forming our Association was to gather together the largest number of Cloutiers whether in name, through ancestry or in spirit in order to celebrate the 350th anniversary of the arrival of the ancestor of all of us, ZACHARIE CLOUTIER, on Quebec soil, the 4th of June 1634.
The largest family reunion ever seen in Quebec was held on July 20, 21 and 22, 1984. It was a great party where we had the occasion to meet and to get to know Cloutiers and descendants of Cloutiers from all of the provinces of Canada and from many states of the United States, from as far away as California and Alaska. During the course of these encounters and rejoicing, we had the opportunity to take part in a memorable mass and to eat gastronomic delights all organized to the proportions of the party. Dancing, an amateur gala with story tellers, singers and musicians embellished our weekend which seemed all too short.
The success of this gathering and the enthusiasm of all of the participants towards the gathering, led the Board of Directors of lAssociation des Cloutier dAmérique to decide to hold annual gatherings in the different regions of Québec. This tradition is now well-established and should continue for a long time.
The primary objective was therefore achieved. We must continue to provide all Cloutiers with the opportunity to meet.
| During the large gathering of the Cloutier family, held at Beauport, July 20, 21 and 22, 1984, to celebrate the 350th anniversary of the arrival on Canadian soil of Zacharie Cloutier and Xainte Dupont, lAssociation des Cloutier dAmérique erected a monument with a commemorative plaque to mark the event. The unveiling of this plaque took place on July 22, 1984 in the presence of the several thousand participants of this large gathering. The monument can be found in front of Yves-Prévost School, at 945 boulevard des
Chutes, Beauport, between Vallée Street on the west and Labelle Street on the east. |
