The Cockshutt Shed COCKSHUTT
BEET LIFTER

A Cockshutt Beet Lifter was acquired in the spring of 2004 from John Ovens, Lucan, Ontario.  It is in working condition but requires two parts before restoration can be completed.

(Cockshutt Farm Implements Catalogue No.391 - P.89)

"The Beet Lifter is a machine specifically designed to permit harvesting the beet crop with maximum efficiency. It is very easily controlled, is provided with adjustments that make it readily adaptable to various conditions and it is light in draft, so that under ordinary conditions, where the ground is not too hard, two horses can pull it.

Structural Features

Two outstanding features of the Cockshutt Lifter are its simplicity of design and its strength of construction, which gives it the durability required for years of satisfactory service.  The substantial main wheels are 32" in diameter, with 2 1/2" steel tires.  The hubs are cast around the sturdy staggered steel spokes which are hot riveted into the tires.  The clean-cut design of this machine, with the absence of all unnecessary toggle, achieves unusual clearance."
