| The COCKSHUTT 60 Standard was manufactured
in the years 1942-48by the OLIVER CORPORATION.
With the exception of the rear axial trumpets, it was identical to the
tractor which was painted green and sold as the OLIVER 60. |
 |
Wayne's grandfather, George Jackson, purchased
this tractor in 1948 from McGAVIN FARM MACHINERY
of Walton, Ontario. It was the only tractor that he ever owned.
Equipped with a 16.9 HP engine, it provided power for a 2 furrow
Cockshutt plow and other farm equipment. For many years after Mr.
Jackson's death it sat out in an orchard until Wayne acquired it in December
of 1990. As a result, bringing it back to life was a challenge.
With a little searching, most parts were easily found except for the light
switch. |
Restored during 1992, the finished product was on display at the Ridgetown
Fair in August of that year. The 60 was used around the farm as a
second tractor until 1998 when a crack was discovered in the rear axial
trumpet. The resulting repair job led to a complete tear down and
new paint job. |
