Mitch Jaugert Cockshutt 40

After many hours of restoration "Hazel" is nearly ready for the 4th of July 2007 parade in Sedalia, Colorado.

WHY HAZEL?
Mitch explained as follows:  "Each time I restore a tractor my wife and I look for a suitable name:  Ford 8n, Bessie;  Farmall-A, Ellie; Farmall-Cub, Cattie (Short for Catawampus); Cockshutt-40, Hazel.   I remembered an old television show called Hazel, when I was a boy. It was about an old maid with a no-nonsense attitude about life. When I drive the old Cockshutt-40 around our property, I feel that same attitude. Hazel just seems fitting for the old girl."

Mitch's mother, Sheron, poses with the new toy found for her son at an estate sale.

In September of 2006, Mitch Jungert sent a message to The Cockshutt Shed Guestbook   telling of an old Cockshutt 40 tractor that his  parents had found at an estate sale.  (September 28th messageThe tractor had stopped running about ten years previously and there it sat.

"After getting the tractor home I put a little oil in each cylinder, replaced all of the electrical, and cleaned out the entire fuel system. The little Buda started up."

Mitch was kind enough to send pictures of his finished project in March of 2007.  "My wife Diane and I brought home a 4000 pound decorative rock we planned to add to a pond and waterfall feature in the front yard. Now getting the rock was easy!  A forklift just set it in our utility trailer and away we went. After getting home, we wrapped a chain around the rock and tugged it off the trailer using Hazel. She pulled the 2 ton rock around like an empty beer can."

Mitch says that he is looking forward to one day coming to Canada to "see where it all started" in Brantford.  We might suggest that July, 2009 would be a perfect time for that trip. The ICCI Summer Show will be held an hour away from Brantford at Milton, Ontario.
