Manitoulin Camporee - June 2013

C-187 Organizes Successful Camporee

Dancers from six NSDCA chpaters gathered early in the week
of June 3 - 8 in anticipation of the Campout and Square Dancing scheduled for
Wednesday, June 5 and Thursday, June 6 near Little Current, Manitoulin Island.

Enthusiasm was running high as busy campers arranged their tents, trailers
and motorhomes in the parks. Fairly wet spring weather resulted in some soft
and muddy areas at some of the camping sites. However spirits were not dampened
as dancers walked along the various roadways stopping to visit with others that
they might not have seen for a couple of years, or perhaps this was a first-time
meeting for a few campers. During the days that were spent on the Island,
the nights were cool (great for sleeping) but the daytimes were bright & sunny
and wonderfully warm, with no rainfall during our entire stay.

A Wednesday morning workshop at Batman's Campground and an evening dance
at the Community Hall in Little Current, a Thursday morning dance gathering
at Low Island Park followed by a BBQ picnic provided by the Host Club
C-187 .. Northern Lights .. were all brought to a great conclusion
with a well-attended Thursday evening dance in the Town Hall.

The following chapters were represented:
C-112           Horseshoe Wheels 'N Squares         Waterloo
C-122           Ontario Central Wheeling Squares     Milton
C-130           Lakeshore Rolling Squares             Keene
C-175           Riverside Gypsy Squares       Mallorytown
C-187           Northern Lights               Greater Sudbury Area

In addition, quite a number of additional campers, and those staying
at B & Bs or motels joined into the dancing and other activities of the Camporee.
