Haliburton Highlands Field Naturalists

First newsletter, from your new president

Dear Pauline,

At the club's AGM back in August, I leapt into the breach when a new president was called for. The club has lots of dedicated volunteers, but required one individual to take responsibility for this position. I'm still getting used to all the ins and outs, and there are still gaps in the executive, and a program list to be prepared for the year. If you enjoy the club but have never volunteered, NOW is the time to step forward!

I am happy to be here, and hope to see many of you returning and inviting friends and acquaintances to join us. Please read on...

Fall Hike Outing
Centennial Ridges Trail, Algonquin Park, Thursday, Oct 22 (rainday, Fri)
Centennial Ridges View

Just one of the thrilling views from this spectacular 10 km ridge trail. Click on the picture to link to a complete 3 page HIKE show and tell.

Don't settle for armchair travelling, though. Plan to join us, and treat yourself to a classic hike along spiny outcroppings of the
Canadian Shield. This is truly a memorable experience that you'll enjoy looking back on all winter long. Pack a lunch, some snacks and water, wear grippy, sturdy footwear and call me for carpooling or directions. It's located on the Hwy 60 Corridor, 36 km from West Gate, 18 km from East Gate.

Club Logo is undergoing a renovation

Logo designed by Ed Poropat

HHFN Club Logo

The logo is being re-drawn digitally by graphic artist, Heather Deveaux. This will give it a crisp clean look, and will make it easy to pop into any web or print application. It was almost ready for this newsletter, but apparently it needs a little more tweaking. So here is the old version.

Next issue, it will appear with a link to the club website, for easy browsing. That is currently not up to date, since we have a new executive, new AGM minutes, etc. Your patience is appreciated. And, we need programs for the year - your input is requested on this point! Please give me a call if you would like to help.
