My approach…
Hello! I am
Henriette
Corbeil, an artist from Laurentians,
Quebec.
I always had a vested interest in arts. I did oil paintings during many years, mainly sceneries. In 2003, I discovered wood mosaic, which is called INTARSIA. A new world was opening to me. I did not know much about wood species at the time and all the variety of colors they could offer. I find beauty in many subjects. I have a particular interest for animals.
Wood work has become a passion for me, an escape, an irresistible adventure always renewed. It allows me to combine many activities that I do like a lot such as computer work, drawings, puzzles, painting and manual work.
Each art piece I do provides me new emotions, a rich experience in a creation challenge.
Color has always had an important part in my life. Today, it is in my art pieces that it is being reflected.
My
art
product
I make 3 dimensional wood decorative mosaics using a technique called INTARSIA. Each wood piece is assembled and glued on a wood backboard.
I do sceneries, birds, animals, insects, flowers, sport players and objects of any kinds. I create my own design most of the time now but I can also make a mosaic based on other well known intarsia artists’ design. They are a lot available on the market.
I enjoy doing custom pets portraits. I design the pattern using a picture of your favorite animal in order to create a unique art piece just for you. You will find some examples of my work in my album « My designs ».
Selling my art
I sell my art products during shows I go to during the year and I also take orders. The cost of my art products varies depending of a variety of criteria such as the dimension of the final piece, the level of complexity and the price of the wood species I use to make it. There is something for all tastes and all budgets!
Wood species used
When I make a piece, wood selection is a very important step on the creation process. I used domestic woods as well as exotic wood from various sources. I usually buy my exotic wood at Langevin & Forest store in Montréal. On their site, you can find pictures and descriptions of the different wood species: Click here
Events coming
Next summer, I will participate in the July 2008 artisan selling show, in La Minerve, Qc (only 35 minutes from Mont-Tremblant). Hope to see you there!
I wrote my first intarsia article for Canadian Woodworking magazine. It was about my landscape project called "Sunrise" that you can see on the "What's New" page. Publish date is to be confirmed.
How can you join me?
The simplest way to contact me is by email. I do have a small inventory but I also take orders so I can make the piece to your preferred dimensions, colors and choices of wood.
