Hillside In The 80's
The 90's Are Further On Down This Page
Hillside had already become very established as a 'family' campground. Most of if not all our sites
had hydro, water and sewer hook-ups. Everyone wanted the conveniences of home but wanted
them in and at their trailer. The old fashioned 'roughing it' camping was becoming a thing of the
past and the 'new wave' of give me all the conveniences was taking over. Consequently we at
Hillside endeavored to meet the demands of our campers by doing the following:
- replace the existing 15 amp hydro service with a 30 amp metered site. That way the camper
could have an extra fridge or run their air conditioner. They could literally have all the
conveniences of home in the trailer. Once a month they got a hydro bill and many paid it
cheerfully.
- install a phone line to every campsite in the park. Many campers were tired of going to the pay
phone so, we at Hillside got Ma Bell involved and now every site in the campground can have
a phone hook-up.
- created a year round mobile home park. Many of the campers at Hillside liked it here so much
they didn't want to leave in the winter. So we made applications to the Township and Region
and had a Mobile Home Development approved for Hillside. Now there are 23 permanent sites
where those people can stay here year round. We still have our seasonal park with the seasonal
campers.
- the campers wanted to have some input as to what type of activities were held at Hillside. In
the late 70's and early 80's Hillside's Recreation Committee was formed. The Committee was
responsible for the organizing of any and all activities that are presently running at Hillside. We
have bingo, euchre nites, family fun nites, parades, fireworks displays, horseshoes, darts, adult
dances, children's baseball and a fishing derby to name a few.

Hillside In The 90's
It's almost the millennium. Boy does time fly when you are enjoying what you are doing. We are
proud to say that Hillside is still run by the same family that started here in 1963. We have already
gone through one generation and will probably make the transition into the next generation within
the next couple of years. We have seen a lot of changes take place during the past 36 years....But
the one constant that has never changed is the type of people that call Hillside their summer
'home'. It is almost like living in a small community only different because everyone packs up and
leaves for the winter. But it's interesting to note, come spring time, there are a lot of people who
just can't wait to get back out here to socialize and enjoy the company of their friends that they
have made over the years here at Hillside. We will be starting an expansion some time in the near
future because we have run out of room. We still have more people who want to camp at Hillside
but no sites. Please be patient with us as we plan to make applications to the Township and
Region to allow Hillside to expand their seasonal section of the park which would allow
approximately an additional 40 sites to the park.
