Discussion Forum

CFARS members are encouraged to use and participate in
CFARS Yahoo Group discussion.  The group was setup by CIW223 and CIW214 as a place where members could chat and ask questions about CFARS in general.  The group is only availabe to CFARS Members or people who are authorized to use a CFARS Station (for example, the military CIW callsigns).  The group is "invisible" to the outside world and will remain as such.

To join the group, you must, contact CIW223 or CIW214 who are the moderators and will set you up with the required information to get you onboard.  When you contact them, please identify who you are (by identifying yourself as "Bill" or pussycat@hotmailc.om can be a bit vague when we have 4 Bills and 6 pussycats in the organization) by CFARS callsign and they will confirm your identity before granting membership.

After joining the discussion group, you will be invited to also join the CFARS Frappr Site.  Frappr is a mapping system on the internet.  When you join, your general location (not exact) will be plotted on a map of Canada so that other members may see your location.   You may add pictures of yourself if you wish, but that is a personal decision for you to make.  No one will post pictures (unless they are already in the public domain) or indepth information without your express permission.  Also note, the information that is plotted on the map, is the exact same information that is contained on the CFARS Membership page on the CFARS website.

More description of the Group direct from the Moderators;

Members,

First let me tell you we are not going to layout any rules and regulations for the reflector. This hampers free discussion and doesn’t allow individuals to think outside the box. Having said that, badmouthing others or any harassment will not be tolerated. I understand that sometimes the “Send” icon gets pressed before we actually review the message, so, one mistake is tolerable, the second won’t be.

If at any time something appears on the CFARS group that you don’t like or appreciate, contact one of the moderators immediately. If you are on this Group and receiving e-mails from the reflector, it is because you either accepted our invitation or asked to join the group. These are the only two ways this can happen. As moderators we do not have the ability to do this for you. If and when you wish to discontinue your membership in this group, contact a moderator and he will remove you from the group or simply unsubscribe. We would certainly like to hear from you before that happens, open and fruitful discussion, is what its all about.

In regards to “Frappr”, which is the site where we created a CFARS Map. The information provided on the map with exception of photos is available from the CFARS Website (which is public information) so we didn’t foresee this as a problem. What we didn’t realize, is that you would receive e-mails that could possibly concern you. If anyone is concerned about this, once again, e-mail one of the moderators directly and we will deal with your concern. The last thing we want, is for you to feel uncomfortable on the CFARS Group site.

 If at any time you have any questions or concerns, contact us immediately, and we will be happy to answer your questions on or off the reflector.
